In general, slotting and drilling are difficult to discharge chips, and other processes that require a two-blade end mill to be used.
For machining that is easy to eject chips, such as side cutting, a four-blade ( multiple flutes ) end mill is used to increase efficiency.
・Tool stiffness (A)
If there is a lot of number of flutes , the thickness of core of the end mill will be thicker, and it will be difficult to deflect. Highly accurate machining is possible by side cutting. In addition, high efficiency is possible with multiple flutes .
・ chip pocket (B)
Less number of flutes means wider chip pockets and better chip discharge. It is advantageous for groove processing and hole processing where chip ejection is required.
There is also a state-of-the-art four-blade end mill that can process groove processing with high efficiency, where chips are difficult to discharge.
