The procedure for machining the left thread with a thread mill
By changing the movement of the tool, the thread mill can machine both right and left threads with the same tool. The procedure for machining the left hand thread is as follows. The pilot hole diameter is the same for right-hand and left-hand threads.
Procedure (1) Tool selection
Choose a thread mill tool that can handle the thread size and effective thread length you want to process.
Step (2) Create a program
In ThreadPro, a program creation app for thread mills, select the left thread from the pull-down menu in the "Right Thread/Left Thread" item.
* Some solid type thread mills have a type that performs hole processing and thread processing at the same time (AT-2 series). Since the design performs hole processing at the same time, the movement of the tool is basically from top to bottom, but because of the climb cut recommendation, in the case of left-hand thread, the pilot hole is drilled, and only the thread processing is machined from the bottom to the top. When using a thread mill with a bottom blade (AT-2 series) to perform left-hand threading with a climb cut , perform pilot hole drilling separately.
